US President Barack Obama addressed the UN General Assembly on September 23, 2009 inspiring the world leaders to engineer “a new era of engagement based on mutual interest and mutual respect”. Candidly, he acknowledged that the US has fallen short on many fronts in the past. He defended the actions of his administration to measure initial steps toward progress on intractable world problems. He appealed to other leaders also to shoulder the same responsibilities to the best of their abilities.
Obama’s “A new era of engagement” unquestionably enhances the spirit of sustainable development. How it works and gains importance day by day are, of course, matters of great interest. We look forward to visualize things under different perspective. However, in the light of an ‘engagement’ there are so many things of consideration.
Earlier, we had some experience amidst miscellaneous scenario. In course of time we found what G-8 couldn’t do, would be expected from G-20. The world is rapidly changing—not as a river just changing its course, but as per forms and norms everything appears under serious deliberation. There are various kinds of changes, often taking place as well. They should be well thought-out and propagated to guide us in the road to prosperity.
In Pittsburgh, USA, during next two days many a leader of G-20 including all the members of G-8 thronged together to discuss matters related to world economy, which is evidently the backbone of human civilization. Initially, so many things like weather, water, forest preservation, pollution, etc. were highlighted by Barrack Obama, US President and they were warmly acknowledged by every member present on the occasion.
Everybody knows how G-8 broadened into G-20. After disintegration of Soviet Union (USSR) it was simply a one sided game in power politics. Naturally, USA achieved more importance over any other developed countries around the world. However, U K, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, Japan and the USA formed G-7. Later on in 1998 Russia was included to make just G-8 with little modifications
Round about 1995 there was tremendous turmoil in world economy in the question of investment in the world market. World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) were also in a fix. It was not at all possible to solve the problems following the old methods or thinking in the way the great leaders were accustomed to.
A collapse was inevitable. Naturally, in that perspective G-20 was formed taking developing countries like India, China, Brazil and nine others to counteract the instability in current state of affairs related to world economy. Collectively, G-20 earned reputation. Needless to say, it was possible especially, for India and China. More precisely and proudly, for our wise Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Finally, an agreement on the basis of the ideas of Dr. Singh was accepted. French President Nicolas Sarkozy described the agreement as a “revolution.”
During 2008 the recession around the world was beyond any measure for which USA was largely responsible. Among the developing countries India and China could revive within a short time due to their balanced nature in economy. India played a vital role and the distinguished leaders present in the G-20 conference on the 25 th of September, 2009 greeted Dr. Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India as the main architect of new model to be followed to see soon a bright future.
P.S. - In pursuance of the summit conference I have decided to write a series of articles. World economy has been enlightened and it has to be improved by and large. Unfortunately, I am still in the dark as regards making money writing thoughtful articles. Apart from philanthropic activities we run an Orphanage and an Old Age Home. I do believe that the readers of my posts will kindly help me in some measure.
Dr. Singh smiles in my dream—“It’s all right in India what you say. But you can not convince an American. Along with others in the fore I hardly could in my country. But in abroad recently I can. It is an acute problem in the world of developed countries as well. Emotions fail to appreciate noble ideas. But none can ignore an exception. Move ahead; may you be talented. Let your dream be fulfilled.”
I simply murmured, “Now it is all up to Instablog Team. As a whole they are considerate and sensible enough.”
